Is there some way to change the way a word or item is pronounced? For example, ATIS/AWOS sounds like atiss ahwoss…

Yes. Click on the Advanced Panel on the right. There is an audio override for Label 1, Label 2 and Label 3. You can also override the audio when she announces a List or Section name in the same way.
