Future of Goose Copilot

I’m getting genuinely worried Goose Co-pilot being abandoned? It seems no one can raise any support on the Goose forums. Mirko hasn’t logged on since October?

I’m worried I’m about to loose hours and hours of hard work invested into Miracheck / Goose Copilot if they don’t plan on continuing this product? This product is important to flight safety , so it would be nice to know if we can expect to be able to use this app.

Has anyone heard anything from Aerosys / Goose? I’ve reach out across all their social media pages , emails , etc attempting to head back.

I’ve been a long term user and supported from the Miracheck days. It would be a shame to see such a good product disappear without any true replacement product out there.

There’s zero evidence of life. I think assuming anything other than the app is dead is wishful thinking at this point. I’d start to get used to that thought if I were you.

Alas Mirko has gone NORDO and his avatar ALWAYS says read 4h ago - not. Other indications include:

  1. The Android version of Goose has been pulled from the Google Play store
  2. That said, Aerosys is listed as an exhibitor at the upcoming Sun N’Fun but in the innovators tent… unclear whether that requires any financial commitment.

This forum was suspended right around the turn of the year - and then re-appeared. There’s been enough traffic questioning the future of the app that a concerned owner/CEO would have long since contributed to the conversation IF there was something positive to say.

I agree with @gooseaerosys.upright - accept that Goose is on its way out and at some point, the app will no longer be viable as iOS changes occur.

Sad.

Yeah unfortunately I’m not holding my breath now it saddens me to say…… I hope to be proved wrong

The “4hr” is not last seen… it’s total “read time”. If you look at his profile - last seen was last year.

Whilst the app might not receive updates, the weak link is the cloud. You can’t update/re-download/modify your checklist without the Goose cloud website being live. So we are cooked if that gets turned off first.

They are listed as an exhibitor and in bold as a sponsor too… so surely they’ve paid money to sponsor.

I can see the CTO of Aerosys has moved on too

The best thing everyone can do now (at very least) is keep a JsON, csv and PdF backup of their checklist from Goose cloud

It’s disappointing to see that Aerosys is still accepting payments and new user signups still… collecting money off people … if there’s truly no sign of life moving forward?

To be clear: Ultimately I want to see this product continue and do well, with happy users. I use the app multiple times a week.

Update from Mirko via Linked In message is positive for the future of Goose and my immediate concerns:

“I‘ll get back to you later this weekend

In short:
Yes, still maintained. Working on a bigger full product upgrade and currently testing an app update fixing the reported yes/no issue

Thanks for the feedback and product support”

Thank you for your update and good work.
MiraCheck is an excellent checklist that I utilize regularly.

I’ve asked again if the community (including us paid subscribers/users) , can get an official update from Aerosys about Goose Copilot …. As we all want to see this product succeed , but it’s hard to keep paying a subscription if there’s radio silence from Aerosys for months

This will be a telling week… Aerosys is shown as both an exhibitor and sponsor at this week’s Sun N’Fun in Florida. I have a couple of friends who will be there at the end of the week and I’ve asked them to let me know if (indeed) Aerosys has shown up.

Stu

It seems from the Sun n Fun app, it that there’s no listing for Aerosys under exhibitors …. So I assume they pulled out ?

Alas no feedback from my friends which I think is confirmatory to their absence in the Sun N’Fun app. This is just another nail in the coffin…

If the company truly was concerned about the viability of their product, they would have long since responded on these forum. Since they pay for the site site which hosts these, its hard to believe they aren’t reading them.

Disappointing to say the least.

Yeah I’m rather confused as to the future, and why you wouldn’t keep your paid subscribers in the loop. I understand there are scope that a developer might be AWOL for a short time due to health reasons, etc…. But just an update on their official support forum is reasonable.

I’m worried about putting any more time into my checklists … if the bills stop getting paid on the Cloud site for building and syncing checklists, makes the app useless

I’d suggest users who are passionate and keen to see Goose Copilot continue , ask politely for an update via following means:

https://www.linkedin.com/in/mirkohahn

mirkohahn.development@gmail.com

Or raise a GitHub “new issue” at Mirko’s latest project which has seen updates more recently than Goose: GitHub · Where software is built

Does anyone know if the source code is/was available?

I have not looked in a long time, but it seems like Android app didn’t get some of the updates that the iOS app did.

I have tried to email Mirko and AeroSys. No response.

I wonder if this could become an opensource project. I am sure there are many pilots that are also programmers that would love to contribute.

Thanks for trying to get in contact with the developer. It’s a shame you haven’t heard back either. I’m still holding on to the fact this isn’t the end…

Unfortunately don’t know enough to answer you questions. The real issue with the future of the app is the Goose “Cloud” side of things… which obviously needs to be hosted. The app doesn’t work without the cloud side of things

I can see Mirko has been busy developing his other project , with updates as recent as today (17 april):

If there’s no way to contact him here, it might be worth raising issues here:

I see that you raised an issue. Hopefully you will get a response. People should subscribe to the issue to show that we are interested. Goose development update · Issue #2 · mirkohahn/hasabrewery-client-esp-temp · GitHub

It would be better if it was in the “cloud”, no doubt.

I think the app could be modified so that the cloud is not needed. The only thing that I use the cloud for is to create the checklists. There is the history, shared checklist, and printing. I don’t use those. Not sure if others do?!?!

The checklist could be created in a file. This is how Dynon, GRT, and other have checklists for their devices. Garmin has an app to create the checklist.

You can download your checklist in JSON file format from the website. That is really hard for people to read and modify. So, something like markdown or txt in standard format would be better if the app was to go cloud-less.

I plan on using the app as long as possible. I am not able to find anything else out there as compete for a checklist app as this one.

For the android app, it would be great to see the ‘control with voice’ working. I am sure there is someone in the community that know what API will allow this.
